My Current Projects
I'm currently at work on two projects: The Story of California's Vietnam War Memorials and A Dark Wind Howls.
The Story of California's Vietnam War Memorials: I'm currently documenting Vietnam War Memorials throughout California. The memorial at Sonoma State University was founded after a professor friend (himself a Vietnam War veteran) of mine's student had a tragic experience. After that I realized that there must be many untold stories about the founding of these memorials. I've found 52 in the state so far, though I suspect there are more. I'll post updates and photos to my blog.
A Dark Wind Howls (formally Guardian Spirit): I first had the idea for Dark Wind around 1994 but wasn’t nearly good enough to write it. In 2009 I’d decided I could write an interesting motion comic assembled a pretty amazing team. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, we weren’t able to stay together and complete the project. However, having written several scripts, I could see where I thought the story should go.
The first draft of A Dark Wind Howls is complete and I’ve set it aside until I revise another project,Sand Like Talcum. Below is the text from our one-sheet, roughly written by me and revised with flourish by Erik Bruhwiler. Below that you can see the amazing art by Carsten Biernat. Our other two members were Charley Samson, who created amazing music for the project and Rob Downard, who helped with graphics, administered the website, and offered life-saving advice.
A Modern Day Vigilante Struggles With His Ancient Past . . . Guardian Spirit.
Our hero, Jon Skein, a loner vigilante in present-day San Francisco, must come to grips with his betrayal of a good and noble friend in a previous life in order to stop the destruction of our world from the powerful demon god of the most terrifying realm of creatures and dark magic, his former friend, Gilgamesh, Lord of the Underworld.
The classic tale, Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest known written story, is the backstory to our hero, and is brought back to life through the experiential journeys provided by Jon Skein’s guiding Deities, as they help him wrestle with his internal demons in order to save our current world from this ancient threat.
